General

The Graduate Certificate of Business (Management) is designed primarily for graduates who wish to increase their knowledge of management theory and practice. The course makes extensive use of case studies, in-house situations and workplace projects with a particular focus on Australia's current economic and social climate.

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution plus a minimum of three years relevant employment experience. Applicants without a first degree who have a minimum of six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates.

Technology requirements

It is recommended that students have access to a personal computer. (Please note that the School of Business and Electronic Commerce operates in an IBM-compatible Windows environment.) It is also strongly recommended that students have access to a modem to facilitate email communication with teaching staff.

Fees

This course is a fee-paying graduate course for which no additional liability under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) will be incurred. For a student undertaking the normal workload of two subjects per semester, fees of $800 per subject will apply. An additional fee will also apply for amenities and library services. Fees paid may be tax deductible in accordance with Section 51(i) of the Income Tax Assessment Act, but students will need to determine their own tax position. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Certificate of Business (Management) is normally completed in two semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

This course is offered by distance education from the School of Business and Electronic Commerce.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of two credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Course structure

The course will consist of four (4) subjects usually selected from existing Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) subjects (six points each). Normally, these will be completed at a rate of two subjects in each of two successive semesters. Mid-year enrolment is permitted and encouraged.

All students will satisfactorily complete one compulsory core subject:

and a minimum of one additional core subject selected from the following: and a maximum of two (2) other subjects selected from either the remaining core subjects above (GBU8002, GBU8003, GBU8004, or GBU8010) or elective subjects, including those listed below, which are offered in the Graduate Diploma of Business (Management). To qualify for the award, a minimum of twenty-four credit points must be earned.

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate of Business (Management) may apply for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Business (Management).

Application procedures

Applications close the first week in February (first intake) and the first week in June (second intake). Fees are payable on acceptance of an offer. An administration fee is payable for those students who withdraw from the course before 31 March (first intake) and 31 August (second intake).
