General

At the request of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, the Department of Accounting and Finance developed a graduate diploma which serves as a conversion course for those without tertiary qualifications in accounting. Students enrolling in the course are not required to be employed by a firm of chartered accountants.

On completion of the course students should:

Entrance requirements

Applicants for the course must have qualified for a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is normally completed in three semesters of full-time study or six semesters of part-time study.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should refer to the Department of Accounting and Finance for the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Mode of offering

This course is offered on-campus at the Clayton campus.

Credit for work done previously

Students who have completed relevant subjects in previous studies may be granted a maximum of six exemptions, approved by the head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, for equivalent studies completed elsewhere.

Professional recognition

This course enables graduates, who have completed degrees in disciplines other than accounting, to become academically qualified to enter the professional year program of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the CPA program of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants.

Course structure

The structure of the course is based largely on subjects taught by the Department of Accounting and Finance. It is designed for graduates who have completed no accounting subjects in their undergraduate or graduate degrees.

Progression to further studies

Students who attain the required standard may be permitted to transfer to the Master of Professional Accounting.
