Objectives

The objectives of the Bachelor of Communication course are to provide students with

1 A knowledge of:

• the theory and practice of mass communication;
• the technology and processes of communications;
• quantitative research techniques;
• mass media;
• the nature of Australian society as it relates to knowledge and communications;
• an area of professional specialisation;
• an area of humanities and social sciences.

• role of mass communications in society;
• application of mass communications theory in the corporate sector;
• role of modern technologies in the application of mass communications theory;
• role of the media;
• economics and politics of communications.

• enable them to work as professionals in an area of specialisation;
• bring together their multidisciplinary knowledge in order to enable them to conduct basic research pertinent to the discipline within which they are working.

• enthusiasm for their field of study;
• a concern for accuracy and a willingness to objectively assess their own performance;
• a concern for the ethical and legal issues affecting the environment in which they will function as communications specialists;
• a professional approach to all their work.
