In 1995 Monash University commenced offering studies at Berwick, with the first intake of students accommodated in the Casey Institute of TAFE premises, awaiting the opening of the Monash University campus in February 1996. These first programs offered at Berwick were a unique combination of university and TAFE studies, with students undertaking a Monash University Bachelor of Communication degree, while at the same time completing a diploma or associate diploma qualification from Casey Institute of TAFE. The Bachelor of Communication degree is a degree of the whole university, administered by the Faculty of Arts. In 1996 a new range of double degree and double award programs was added to the programs offered in 1995 and the range will be further extended in 1997.
