  • GSC1201 GSC1202: Prohibitions: Students who have completed 6322 (Sociology of the family) cannot
  • GSC2201: Objectives On successful completion of the subject students should have developed a sociological perspective on the place of the family in industrial society and an understanding of the major social processes involved in family change; with special focus on processes of the household division of labour, and the patterns of family formation and disruption.

    Synopsis The subject will cover material on the following topics: family structure and industrialisation, mate selection, family interaction, changing gender roles within the family, family disruption and extended family relationships.

    Assessment Assignment one (1500 words): 25%
    * Assignment two (2500 words): 40%
    * Final examination: 35%
