  • INM1125: Objectives Upon completion of this subject students should be able (in Indonesian) to send a greeting card appropriate to the national or religious holiday, to provide a short tour of an Australian university, advise on translation techniques, order and discuss Indonesian dishes, enrol in an academic course, write a formal invitation, receive and leave a messages via the telephone, inform a doctor of specific ailment, send a packet via post, give a brief outline of a selected cultural or political issue with reference to the Australian and Indonesian media.

    Synopsis This subject develops more general communication skills using a wide range of materials from the Indonesian media and everyday life. Translation skills are introduced and specific issues in modern Indonesian political and cultural life are introduced in the lectures. Practicals continue to be based on communication tasks but also consider themes related to the lecture series.

    Assessment Examinations (2 hours): 50%
    * Semester work (assignments, oral): 50%
