Objectives The student should be able to comprehend both imaginatively and critically an easily assimilable body of literature; have some understanding of the main currents of thought in Australian literature and culture; understand a range of approaches to the texts; and appreciate the variegated nature of the texts in relation to authorship and content.
Synopsis This subject involves a study of Australian texts, including Aboriginal and non-fictional ones, arranged by themes as in the Macmillan anthology. Attention will be given to the ways these texts reinforce or challenge conventional notions of the Australian experience.
Assessment Essay (2500 words): 40%
* Examination (2 hours): 60%
