Objectives Upon completion of this subject students should understand how societal values are embedded in the empirical functions of art in the nineteenth century; recognise how the ideologies of race, class, gender, and nation are exploited in art production.
Synopsis The subject will study colonial art in relation to early settlement and the uses made of art in exploration and anthropology. Issues of contemporaneity, feminism and nationalism will focus discussion on the Heidelberg School.
