Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should have developed a broad understanding of the social changes that led to the evolution of Romanticism in Spain and its impact on writing later in the century.
Synopsis This subject surveys the different literary forms and movements that took hold in Spain during the nineteenth century. Starting with a study of romantic poetry and drama, and costumbrista writing, the emphasis will be on the novels written in the second half of the century, specially those by Benito Pérez Galdós and Juan Valera.
Assessment Written (4000 words): 70%
