Library dissertation To provide students with an opportunity to conceptualise a theoretical problem; critically analyse secondary sources or theoretical texts; develop their ability to present logical, persuasive and well evidenced arguments.

Synopsis Three options are available within this subject. Each is undertaken under the supervision of a staff member. The options are (i) an individual research project (empirical), (ii) an individual research project (theoretical, based on secondary sources), and (iii) a group project (empirical). Please note, a student may undertake an empirical study involving `human subjects', only if (a) approval has been obtained from the Standing Committee on Ethics in Research on Humans for the project prior to its commencement; and (b) a staff member has agreed to supervise the project prior to its commencement. If these conditions have not been met, students enrolled in this subject may proceed with the subject as a library dissertation or as a project which does not involve `human subjects'.
