Objectives To enable students to understand and analyse contemporary social policy issues, understand the links between policy and social work practice, and apply this analysis to major soical policy fields.

Synopsis Defining social policy and understanding the Australian community to which it applies; history of social policy in Australia; the state of policy in various fields including the study of political party policies, poverty, redistribution, health and housing.

Assessment Assignment plan (500 words): 10%
* Written assignment (2000 words): 80%
* Class presentation: 10%
