Ukrainian literature II/2A

Objectives Students who have completed this subject should have a knowledge of the main developments in Ukrainian literature from the 1910s to the 1950s. They should have become familiar with major works by writers from Ukraine within the USSR (Khvyl'ovyi, Pidmohyl'nyi, Kulish) and from Western Ukraine (B I Antonych, Ol'ha Kobylians'ka), as well as émigré writers. Students should have gained an understanding of the relationship between literature and the political and social dimensions of Soviet rule.

Synopsis A study of cultural developments in Ukraine from the 1930s to the 1950s, with emphasis on Mykola Khvyl'ovyi and his school.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 60%
* Examinations (1 hour): 40%
