Objectives On completing the subject students should be familiar with the grammatical structures of the Slavic languages studied contrastively and be able to analyse texts in the primary language under investigation in terms of characteristic linguistic features.
Synopsis The subject provides a contrastive study of some major Slavic languages: Czech, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Ukrainian and Russian. It compares and contrasts such aspects as their sound and scripts (phonetics and orthography), grammatical structure and sentence structure (morphology and syntax) and vocabulary (lexicology).
Assessment Written (3000 words): 50%
* Examinations (2 hours): 50%
