Prerequisites: VCE/HSC in Russian or another Slavic language or
equivalent
Objectives On completing this subject and RUS1080 students should: have acquired a thorough knowledge of Russian grammar; be able to speak, read, write and understand the standard language at a level of non-technical, everyday communication; be able to translate non-specialist texts from and into Russian without recourse to a dictionary; have gained a basic knowledge of selected literary texts; acquired an understanding of the political, cultural and historical background of Russian.
Synopsis The subject consists of two parts: (1) advanced grammar, composition, conversation and textual work (3 hrs/week); (2) an introduction to Russian (and other Slavic) culture (1 hr/week).
Assessment Written: 20%
