Prerequisites: MUS2110, MUS2120 and consent of instructor.
Objectives Upon successful completion of the subject students should have gained an introduction to baton techniques for conducting in a wide variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles, gained an introduction to score preparation with attention given to performance practice, and constructed a foundation for generating an aural concept of a music work
Synopsis In this self-directed subject, students are required to propose a selection of works to be arranged or a selection of works to be studied for the purpose of conducting them for performance by a band, orchestra, choir or other approved ensemble. Students meet with a supervisor to discuss the arrangements, develop approaches to interpretation and score study and refine baton techniques. Students must submit detailed score study material.
Assessment Written (3000 words): 30%
