Music composition workshop

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject students should have broadened their perspective of compositional styles and possibilities and acquired greater awareness of the analytical and technical requirements for effective musical composition.

Synopsis The aim is to study the theory and practice of contemporary musical composition. Students study selected works, compare works for different combinations and styles, write program notes on each composition, and work with other students to perform their compositions in a public concert.

Assessment Written (composition folio consisting of two original works): 70% (content 30%, notation 20%, presentation, 20%)
* Workshops and concert performance of at least one original work: 30%
