Orchestral, choral and chamber performance and repertoire

* Prerequisites: Audition, or pass in MUS2510 and MUS2520.

Objectives Upon successful completion this subject students should have investigated specific and representative works in the repertoire for either the symphonic wind ensemble or the orchestra, or the choir and the chamber ensemble and developed a basis for identifying elements of orchestral playing such as balance, intonation, style and appropriateness of performance, based on the study of relevant literature.

Synopsis (i) Orchestral, choral and chamber rehearsals and concert performance of selected works; and (ii) an historical and theoretical study of the relevant orchestral repertoire. Note: different works from different periods are studied each semester.

Assessment: (4 points) Written assignment (2500 words): 25%
* Concert performance (20 minutes chamber ensemble in addition to large ensemble): 75%

Assessment (6 points) Written assignment (3500 words): 25%
* Concert chamber performance: (30 minutes chamber ensemble in addition to large ensemble): 75%
