Solo and duo performance and literature

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject students should have gained greater expertise in the performance of a selected repertoire from a wide range of periods, and completed the required body of technical work, including scales, arpeggios and studies as set out in the technical syllabus for the relevant instrument.

Synopsis Under the guidance of a departmental supervisor and a studio teacher, students are required (i) to prepare a unified program of works from at least two historical periods to be performed in public at the end of the semester accompanied by original program annotations, and (ii) to write critical, analytical and historical assignments in the context of the relevant literature. Aural training is also provided. Students need to practice at least three hours per day and to participate in orchestral and/or choral ensembles as allocated.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 25%
* Practical examination: 75%
