Orchestral and choral performance and studies

Objectives By the end of the semester, students undertaking this subject should have acquired an understanding of selected repertoire for either the symphonic wind ensemble, the symphony orchestra or the choir; gained greater musical literacy; and acquired theoretical and historical understanding appropriate to the study of selected repertoire.

Synopsis (i) Ensemble, orchestral and choral rehearsals and concert performance of selected works, and (ii) training in the materials and structures of music, emphasising musicianship and creativity, including melodic, rhythmic, harmonic and contrapuntal relationships and formal structures or studies in the history of Western music. Note: this interfaculty subject is available in some faculties as a three-point unit comprising performance only.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 30%
* Concert performance/Practical examinations: 70%
