Objectives Students successfully completing the minor thesis should have learned the skills of researching and writing an extended, original discussion of a significant topic; also how to achieve standards of presentation and referencing expected by academic publishers.
Synopsis A long essay or minor thesis (9000-12,000 words) on an approved topic of the candidate's own choice. The thesis topic should, ideally, be decided upon and approved before the end of the previous year so that a supervisor may be appointed and much of the work done during the long vacation and first semester. In connection with the thesis, there will be a short subject in methodology during some weeks of the first semester and a series of seminars to discuss work in progress. Two copies of the minor thesis must be submitted in typescript and suitably bound not later than the Monday following the last teaching day of the relevant semester.
