Objectives In this subject students should develop an understanding of some of the major literary movements of the twentieth century as well as an informed awareness of important cultural and intellectual contexts of texts.
Synopsis This subject explores relationships between important movements in literature and cultural/intellectual contexts in which writers have worked. Modernism, feminism and some postmodern concerns will be examined.

* Third-year students are required to demonstrate wider reading, a greater
analytical grasp of topics and a deeper acquaintance with the discipline.
