The economic history discipline of the Department of Economics offers a major sequence to Arts students on the Clayton campus, which includes ECO1510 (Economic history: world economic leadership) and ECO1520 (Economic history: Japan and Australia), and subjects chosen from seven second-year, and eight third-year economic history subjects. With the permission of the head of Economic History, students who have the appropriate prerequisites may be permitted to substitute a third-year economics subject for one of the third-year economic history subjects. (See the `Economics' section in this handbook for major and minor sequences in economics and economic studies, which may incorporate economic history subjects.) Students wishing to complete a minor sequence are recommended to take ECO1510 (Economic history: world economic leadership), ECO1520 (Economic history: Japan and Australia), ECO2510 (Australian economic history) and ECO2550 (Business in Asia). The first-year subjects are valued at six points towards the BA degree, and each of the second and third-year subjects is valued at eight points.
Honours studies in economic history are available in the Faculty of Arts.
All students enrolling in subjects taught by the Department of Economics must have their enrolment approved by an adviser in the office of the Faculty of Business and Economics. Where there is a choice of lecture groups, students will normally be allocated to a group at the time of enrolment and may not change without permission.
