Objectives Students will gain an understanding of the nature of Australia's relations with Britain and the USA and significant Asian powers during the twentieth century; an ability to identify and analyse the factors influencing the Australian people's view about the Monarchy during the twentieth century; and an ability to discuss, in an informed fashion, a range of issues which are associated with Australia's development as an independent nation during the twentieth century.

Synopsis This subject examines Australia's relationship with Britain from the 1900s to the present day. It looks at the changing orientation of Australian trade, foreign policy and and cultural ties, and considers the role of the monarchy as Australia approaches the centenary of federation.
