Prerequisites: INM1115
Objectives Upon completion of this subject students should be able (in Indonesian) to check time differences between Indonesian provinces and Australia, locate geographical features on a map, outline the basic procedures in obtaining a visa and clearing customs at the airport, present a short welcoming speech to a group of visitors, inform a visitor of some current cultural events in Australia, assist and request assistance concerning accommodation and health problems. In English, students will be able to raise issues concerning the origins of Indonesian language, the influences of Buddhism and Hinduism on Indonesian culture, the relationship between Aboriginal Australia and Indonesia, early empires, the origin of national symbols.
Synopsis This is the continuation of `Beginning Indonesian part I' and follows the same format. The lecture series introduces an historical background to Southeast Asia through the history of the language. The practicals continue to develop proficiency in basic communication tasks though with an increasing emphasis on an Indonesian setting.
