Language study abroad program

8 points, 12, 14 or 16 points

Objectives On completion of this subject, students will have improved substantially their ability to perform in Japanese in the Japanese environment. The goals set and achieved will depend on the amount of credit sought, on the length of time spent in Japan, and on the level of Japanese profiency students take with them to Japan.

Synopsis The department has relationships with about ten universities, with several different arrangements being made for study at each university. Accordingly, each study program is tailored to the needs of the student and will vary according to the time spent in Japan, the amount of credit sought and the student's level of Japanese proficiency. However, the overall aim is to allow students to work with natural materials in a natural language environment. Students should consult with the coordinator of the Japan Links Committee within the department for further details.

Assessment Students will be required to bring back all written work for assessment and/or to sit for a competency test.
