Japanese 1B: part 2

* Prerequisites: JPL1210 or JPL1250 or equivalent

Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should be able to express opinions and conjecture; report the words of others; give and ask advice using the conditional form; use the causative and passive causative forms of verbs; use vocabulary and expressions relevant to renting an apartment; describe physical symptoms; use the vocabulary and expressions required in a job interview; use the honorific forms of common verbs; read and reply to formal invitations written in Japanese; read graphs and statistics written in Japanese and recognise an additional 170 kanji (in total 470).

Synopsis This subject aims to consolidate and further develop students' knowledge of Japanese in order to achieve lower intermediate competence in spoken and written Japanese. An off-campus option is available (JPL1260). Students are advised to enrol concurrently for JPS1090 (Understanding contemporary Japan).

Assessment Mid-semester test (1 hour): 25%
* Final examination (2 hours): 35%
* Speaking test: 10%
* Listening comprehension test: 10%
* Ongoing assessment: 20%
