Beginning Thai, part 1

Objectives To give students a starting point from which they can build their Thai language skills under further instruction.

Synopsis This subject is designed to introduce beginning Thai students to spoken and written Thai. The speaking component will introduce survival skills covering such areas as greetings, introductions, asking basic questions to meet requirements and responding to simple questions. The writing component will introduce Thai vowels and consonants by groups and their influence on the basic tone system. Sound system, tone familiarity and basic tone rules will also be introduced.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 40%
* Oral examination: 30%
* Assignments and classwork: 30%
