Objectives On successful completion of this course students should have greatly increased their active mastery of both spoken and written Indonesian. They should be capable of drawing on Indonesian sources to write essays, writing different types of letters according to purpose and giving short talks appropriate to different occasions.
Synopsis Students will enrol in this subject to have their results accredited to their degree at `Post advanced Indonesian' level. Students will select Indonesian Level IV at the Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. In this subject stress is laid on the active mastery of Indonesian, both spoken and written. Students learn how to prepare and deliver short talks appropriate to particular occasions; how to write different types of letters according to purpose; and how to produce essays on prescribed topics, drawing on Indonesian sources. Classes consist of three one-hour lectures, a one-hour small group tutorial and two hours of one-to-one tutorial based around field activities and workshops. Students are also required to participate in one weekend fieldtrip and several social activities or ceremonies.

* NB Granting of accreditation to a
Monash degree is dependent upon passing an exam at Monash University, in the
Department of Asian Languages and Studies on return to Australia. Students must
