Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have demonstrated skills in critical analysis and, on the basis of these, formulated their own criteria for Asian studies in education; drawn upon and exchanged insights from the disciplines with which each student is most familiar, so that knowledge and understanding of the nature and scope of Asian studies in education is increased; created a curriculum unit based upon an integrated or multidisciplinary approach to Asian studies in education (at primary, high school or adult eduction level, according to the professional role of each student).
Synopsis This subject aims to increase understanding of Asian countries and improve teaching about Asia in Australia. It explores the rationale of such teaching, opportunities to introduce Asian studies within specific curriculum areas and how insights gained by participants can lead to preparation of significant curriculum material for primary, secondary and adult education.
