Course structure

The Graduate Diploma of Arts (Applied Japanese Linguistics) can be taken over one year full-time or two years part-time. There is one core subject, JAL4530 (Introduction to the teaching of Japanese as a foreign language), which students normally take in their first semester. The remaining thirty-six points will usually consist of three other subjects in the Japanese applied linguistics area offered in the department (prefixed by JAL) but may include an approved subject taken outside the department up to the value of twelve points, or (for non-native speakers of Japanese) up to twenty-four points of postgraduate Japanese language subjects.
