Course structure

This degree is available by coursework only and consists of parts I and II. The course of study leading to the MA in Japanese business interpreting and translation is a tightly structured program. In the first year (MA part I) all students must take the following four subjects:

JBC4611 Introduction to Japanese business communication (8 points)

The remaining twenty-four points may be taken from any of the other fourth-year level subjects offered by the department to make a total of forty-eight points in the MA part I.

The second year (MA part II) consists of the following subjects which all students must take:

JBC5622 Japanese companies overseas (6 points)

JBC5830 Administrative and business Japanese (6 points)

The remaining eight points must consist of project work. Students will usually be required to do one of the following subjects for eight points: The choice of these options in any given year will depend upon the availability of staff. It is not planned that every option will be available every year. However, all of the subjects allow students to pursue a wide range of interests so that students can do a project related to their career goals. In lieu of one of the above projects, students may, with the approval of the program coordinator, choose to do one or more electives either inside or outside the department up to twelve points.
