Course of study
Candidates will normally be enrolled in four twelve-point semester
subjects chosen from courses offered by the department under the HYD code (for
details see numerical listings below under `Subjects'). (NB Simply read HYM as
HYD where appropriate). In approved cases, candidates may replace one semester
subject with a research project (HYD4990) of twelve points.
One of the following must be chosen as a core subject:
HYD4120 Reading and writing Australian history
- HYD4870 Social theory and social history
- HYD4950 Hidden transcripts: cultural approaches to the past
- HYD4960 Gender and history
plus three approved subjects chosen
from the following group:
HYD4090 The Australian ethnic experience
- HYD4120 Reading and writing Australian history
- HYD4210 `Being American': the construction of national identity
- HYD4870 Social theory and social history
- HYD4950 Hidden transcripts: cultural approaches to the past
- HYD4960 Gender and history
- HYD4980 The American right
- RLM4070 Buddhist ethics: society and politics
- RLM4090 The authority of the text: the hermeneutical question
- RLM4110 Ecology, gender and the sacred
- RLM4810 The history of popular Christianity from the beginning to the
Enlightenment
- HYD4050/4070 Fourth-year special subjects in history (first semester)
- HYD4060/4080 Fourth-year special subjects in history (second
semester)
Full details of special subject units are provided in the
fourth-year handbook available from the History department office.
With permission of the department, fourth-year level subjects from other
departments may be taken.
