Upon the completion of the Master of Arts by coursework students will have consolidated and extended their knowledge of literature; literary production; a range of theoretical approaches to the criticism and analysis of literature; and the contexts (generic, historic, cultural) in which literature is produced and read. Students will also have consolidated and extended their skills of independent research, analysis, composition and argument beyond the level attained at the fourth year.
