Objectives

Students successfully completing part I of the degree should have acquired advanced skills in bibliographical description, assessment and analysis, and learnt how to investigate the significance to the history of the booktrade of the transmission of written and printed texts in colonial and contemporary Australia. They should have achieved greater understanding of book production, hand-printing, and the bibliographical records of books printed before 1801, and become familiar with the techniques of analysis of the life of the text, from its emergence to its reception.

Students successfully completing part II of the degree should have extended their skills of investigation and deepened their understanding of bibliographical and textual studies through the completion of a research thesis which makes a contribution to bibliographical knowledge.
