Objectives Students should gain an understanding of recent Commonwealth initiatives in cultural policy, especially those following the 1994 Creative Nation white paper; the current technological, economic and cultural contexts of current policy; and the historical and political background to key cultural policy issues.
Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with the skills to respond to an increasingly complex policy environment and it equips students to participate in the arguments over the directions of policy. It provides an overview of the main government and community debates at a time of rapid technological change and unprecedented government interest in the subject. It will give students a broad knowledge of the field, encouraging them to look beyond their particular disciplinary specialism.
