Master of Arts in Italian

Course code: 0017

Graduate coordinator: Mr Raffaele Lampugnani

Objectives

Students successfully completing the Master of Arts in Italian by coursework and thesis should have gained greater understanding of a special field in Italian studies and of a related topic in another discipline as a preparation for the advanced research work incorporated in the thesis itself.

The minimum requirement for entry to the MA program (forty-eight points, one year full-time or normally two years part-time) is an honours degree with a grade of H2A or better in Italian or its equivalent.

Students may work for an MA by thesis alone. In this case the thesis consists of 40,000-60,000 words. As part of their preparation candidates will receive appropriate instruction in reference bibliography.

Suitably qualified candidates may be granted permission to proceed to the degree by coursework and thesis. The program will be as follows:

(i) ITM5960.08 Special Italian reading course;

(ii) One eight-point subject from another discipline;

(iii) thesis (66%) of 25,000-35,000 words. Some instruction in reference bibliography will be provided as a preparation of the thesis.

The prerequisite for the general Master of Arts in Italian is an honours degree in Italian with a grade of H2A or above or its equivalent. The MA in Italian is undertaken by thesis. Some instruction in reference bibliography will be provided as a preparation for the thesis.
