Ceramic studies

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students are expected to have demonstrated an ability to develop concepts, to show individual expression; presentation of a professional folio; an understanding of research into ceramic technology and independent research for entry to postgraduate studies or the professional world; an understanding of management skills, legal rights, responsibilities, marketing and structure of business practice; and an ability to communicate effectively, in oral and written form, to access government, industry, professional groups, clients and galleries.
Synopsis This subject provides two main options for students. Option 1 This option continues to extend the development of individual designs and production of work exploring non-functional and sculptural ceramics. It also extends the use of other media within the context of studio ceramics. Students are expected, in consultation with lecturers, to produce a substantial folio for final folio exhibition; they are expected to develop a portfolio suitable for professional presentation to show drawings and photographs for client presentation. Option 2 This option continues to extend individual design for production ware for a functional range of ceramics; it also develops a range of individual studio work to complement a range of production work. Students are expected to produce a professional folio presentation which will demonstrate a range of well-designed and well-produced studio work and produce a professional portfolio presentation for prospective clientele.
