About the Web Handbooks

The Monash University Handbook pages are the only official source of course and subject information at Monash. Web page developers must not duplicate Handbook information: they must instead provide hypertext links to it.

Unfortunately, the structure of the Web Handbooks (and most of the paper ones) has changed every year they have been produced, and links to one version of the handbooks may break when the yearly revision occurs.

There are some conventions that have been adopted to alleviate this problem:

The Monash University Handbook Pages will remain at the URL http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/ for the forseeable future.
Similarly, the individual faculty handbook pages will remain at http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/faculty/.
Current subject descriptions will remain available by a URL of the form:
http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/faculty/SUB7367.html, where SUB7367 is any valid subject code.
References to a particular year's handbook will also be honoured after that edition is no longer current. Note that the URL path http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/ is at the time of this writing a symbolic link to the location http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/97handbooks/. You may choose to link to an area in /pubs/97handbooks instead of the same area in /pubs/handbooks/, and your link will continue to work after the handbook is no longer current.
