Synopsis An introduction to how physical concepts such as heat,
temperature and entropy can be understood from a microscopic, probabilistic
viewpoint. The Maxwell-Boltzmann, Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein probability
distributions. Simple applications of the partition function will be treated.
