Industrial statistics

4 points + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: MAT2020, MAS2011, MAS2032, MAS2042

Objectives On the completion of this subject students will understand the principles of statistical process control; know how to calculate control limits for a range of charts; understand which chart to apply in a given application; evaluate and understand why the standard theory fails on occasions, and how to rectify the problem; understand the principles of acceptance sampling.

Synopsis Total quality management. Control charts for attributes, variables and short production runs. Cusum and exponentially weighted moving average charts. Process capability; process improvement with designed experiments - Taguchi. Acceptance sampling.

Assessment Examinations (1.5 hours): 80% + Tests and/or assignments: 20%
