Objectives On the completion of this subject students will understand the basis of the governing differential equations for compressible viscous flow; apply these equations to a wide range of physical situations; develop skills in solving the equations; appreciate the significance of the solutions in relation to properties of the fluid flow.
Synopsis The Navier-Stokes equations for compressible viscous flow. Dynamical similarity. Exact solutions for incompressible flow. Flow past rigid bodies at low and high Reynolds number. Acoustics and shock waves.
