Objectives Students completing this subject should be able to design and construct a small information system using a fourth generation approach; appreciate those attributes which contribute to the quality of computer software; outline and follow a procedure for evaluating and acquiring commercial software packages.
Synopsis Programming language generations and their characteristics; algorithms and computer programs; data dictionaries and data analysis; screen design; report design; file design; menu systems; using a fourth generation approach; case studies of small business systems; evaluation of software; implementation and system documentation. For distance education students there is provision for additional student contact through electronic mail and news.
Assessment Assignments: 30% + Examination: 70% + Note that satisfactory performance in both components is required to obtain a pass
