Objectives The objectives are for students to be exposed to applied research; understand the nature and scope of applied research; have practical experience in carrying out applied research; be able to apply operations research techniques to solve practical problems; learn to apply knowledge in consulting work; be able to organise research material for seminar presentations.
Synopsis This subject aims to develop students' ability to use the material studied during the course in a real decision problem situation. This is the final subject of the scientific thought and methods sequence, the aims of which are given in the subject outline for GAS1062. The three themes of GAS1062 and GAS2062, together with previous studies in the major area, are brought together in the form of an individual research project. Project topics will relate to the area of major study. Requirements to be met include reviewing relevant literature, seminar presentation and participation, and submission of a detailed final report. Where necessary for a particular project, attendance at short seminar programs may also be required
Assessment Seminar presentation: 20% + Interim project reports: 10% + Final project report: 70%
