Physics for engineers

4 points + Second semester + 2 hours of lectures per week, 2 hours of tutorials and 2 hours of practical work per fortnight + Gippsland/Distance

Objectives The students are expected to gain an understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of physics relevant to engineering applications.

Synopsis This subject involves a study of the following topics: electromagnetism - electric fields and potential, capacitance, resistance, magnetic fields; waves - origin and properties of mechanical, sound and light waves; conduction - conduction mechanisms in gases, liquids and solids; and the thermal and thermoelectric properties of solid materials.

Assessment Examination: 80% + Laboratory exercises: 20%
