Psychology - professional development

6 points + One 1-hour lecture and one 3-hour seminar per week + Second semester + Caulfield + Prerequisites: APY2020

Objectives On the completion of this subject students will understand the principles of planning a career in psychology, including the writing of a curriculum vitae and an awareness of career options; understand the mechanisms of commencing and maintaining a private practice; be aware of ethical issues; know about resources available to a professional psychologist.

Synopsis Central theme: professional development. Topics include: career planning; the selection interview; the curriculum vitae; conducting a meeting; postgraduate and career options; psychologists' reports; negotiation; legal ethical and professional issues affecting psychological practice. Other professional issues as suggested in class.

Assessment Multiple-choice test: 40% + Seminar presentation: 30% + Essay: 30%.
