Objectives On completion of this subject the students are expected to trace the historical development of health promotion in community nursing practice; describe the key concepts and strategies of different health promotion approaches; analyse the relationship between health and human behaviour; identify and describe the steps of a selected health promotion method; demonstrate different forms of media; explore group methods for health promotion; and identify and utilise a health promotion method.
Synopsis This subject is designed to provide the student with knowledge of different approaches to health promotion and develop competency in the design and implementation of a health promotion project. Specifically, the subject includes study of behavioural, educational and community development approaches to health promotion, analysing the relationship between health and human behaviour for individuals, groups and populations. The subject will provide the student with the opportunity to develop competency working with groups, utilising different forms of media and planning, implementing and evaluating a health promotion program.
