Objectives On completion of this subject students are expected to describe key components of human behaviour and stages of human development; discuss and critically evaluate psychosocial aspects of human behaviour; examine the influence that psychosocial factors have on individuals and their communities where they interface with the health system; develop plans for intervention and behavioural change at an organisational level; describe and discuss adjustive behaviour in coping with stressors of health and illness; discuss the psychosocial factors relevant to the informational and emotional care of clients and demonstrate the application of this understanding to nursing practice; describe and discuss the application of theoretical perspectives of human behaviour to practitioner performance.
Synopsis Introduces students to psychosocial aspects of human development and behaviour. Students should gain an understanding of the significance of these aspects to the concept of control in health and illness, as well as skills in the practical application of psychosocial theory to nursing practice.
