Global nursing issues VI: cross-cultural nursing perspectives

2 points + 2 hours per week + First or second semester + Peninsula

Objectives On completion of the subject, students are expected to define major concepts of culture and transcultural nursing; be aware of the relationship between culture, health and health care; analyse critically the relationship between culture, health and health care; conduct a cultural assessment on a culturally different person; be aware of clinical applications of cultural beliefs and practices; demonstrate developing skills as a reflective practitioner when discussing interactions with culturally different people; be aware of transcultural issues in nursing theory and research.

Synopsis This unit introduces students to different cultures and socio-cultural factors effecting health and health care. Students are expected to examine the implications of these factors on themselves as individuals and as nurses, and on the clients.

Assessment Poster presentation: 40% + Written assignment: 60%
