Global nursing issues III

2 points + 2 hours per week + First or second semester + Peninsula

Objectives On successful completion of the subject, it is expected that the student will be able to discuss how differences in personal and professional beliefs and values influence moral decision making; identify the major ethical theories; describe how an ethical reasoning framework may be effectively used to resolve ethical dilemmas commonly encountered by nurses in a variety of clinical settings; effectively utilise an ethical reasoning approach to resolve ethical problems experienced within a health care setting.

Synopsis This subject will present an overview of those aspects of ethics which are relevant to current nursing practice and which enable students to develop a framework against which they may judge ethical standards of nursing practice within a variety of clinical settings.

Assessment Workshop presentation/debate: 20% + Assignment 80%
