Global nursing issues II

2 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula

Objectives On successful completion of the subject, students should be able to explore the differing perspectives of the nurse and patient in a social and personal context; examine the manner in which the body is understood by nurses and patients; describe the key components of the relationship between nurses and patients; explore biographical patient literature using an interpretative nursing framework; consider illness as a social and cultural phenomenon; evaluate the new trends emerging for nursing theory and practice.

Synopsis This subject builds on the philosophical frameworks introduced in semester one and explores issues in the development of nursing relationships and activities with patients. These frameworks provide the backdrop for an exploration of a number of specific nursing issues.

Assessment Group seminar presentation and paper: 30% + Assignment: 70%
